Save time, save money!

The first attendant to speak is an elderly professor, who dismisses her novel as frivolous and lewd. Elena struggles to respond. Then, a young man at the back of the audience rushes to her defense, praising the novel effusively. It is Nino Sarratore. Elena begins the third book by recounting the last time she saw Lila, during a visit to the neighborhood in It is unclear how she met her end. Before Elena leaves, Lila asks if she plans to ever write about the neighborhood. Elena says no, but Lila makes her promise that, if she does, she must leave her out of it.

After Elena signs copies of her book, Adele invites her and Nino out to dinner.

Elena tells Nino that Lila has left Stefano and given birth to a son. He senses her discomfort; after leaving the restaurant, he asks whether she still wants to marry him. This ends up stirring public interest; the book sells extremely well, and Elena becomes a minor literary celebrity. Mariarosa has befriended her college boyfriend, Franco Mari, who is now an important political organizer. Back in Naples, Elena tells her family of her plans to marry Pietro and live in Florence. They are initially skeptical, but Pietro visits and wins them over with his intelligence and amiability.

Meanwhile, working at the Soccavo factory, Lila faces flagrant sexual harassment, while intolerable working conditions destroy her health. Without her permission, an extemporaneous speech given by Lila about the reality of life for factory workers is converted into a communist leaflet, and distributed at the factory. The factory becomes a warzone, with local communists and fascists daily coming to blows.

Eventually, Michele shows up at the factory, revealing that his money is behind the Soccavo operation, and that she has unknowingly been working for him. After telling Elena what she has endured at the factory, Lila makes Elena promise her that, if something happens to her, she will take care of her son. Elena agrees, and devotes the rest of her time in Naples to caring for Lila. Before Elena leaves Naples, she and Lila have a run-in with Melina, who went mad after having an affair with Donato Sarratore. Elena marries Pietro, and immediately becomes pregnant.

She gives birth to a daughter, Dede, but struggles to care for the child and to work on a second book without help from Pietro, who is consumed by conflicts at work. Dissatisfied with her life as a housewife, Elena engages in a series of flirtations with acquaintances of Pietro. Enzo has found a job working for IBM, with Lila as his assistant. They are approaching financial security, and their relationship has become romantic. In the final months of her pregnancy, Elena feverishly pens a second novel, and passes it along to Adele and Lila.

She sends Gennaro home, and Lila tells her she has accepted a job offer from Michele to run his new data-processing center. Elena ambushes her sister at her new home, but Elisa brushes off her concerns, and tells her that they have organized a dinner party in her honor. Lila is the last to arrive. Michele praises his new employee, publically declaring that her intelligence is unequaled. The next day, Pietro and Elena visit the data-processing center, and Lila tells her that as long as she lives away from the neighborhood, there are certain things about the way things are, between all of her old acquaintance, that she will never understand.

Elena is thrilled by his appearance, but dismayed to learn that he is married. Unbeknownst to Pietro, Elena has written a new novel: a feminist fable about the creation of woman from man, which argues that women should not model their intelligence after that of men something Elena is ashamed to realize she has done. He leaves Florence, but calls her soon after and declares it excellence. Soon, he returns, staying with the Airotas for the duration of a business trip.

Abruptly, he starts to treat Pietro with contempt, openly insulting and antagonizing him. Elena goes to his room one night, intending to confront him. Nino and Elena begin a passionate affair. Though initially torn by her actions, Elena eventually gives herself over to the affair, wholeheartedly, leaving her family to see Nino secretly. Eventually, Pietro realizes what is happening, and confronts her. After much back and forth, Elena confesses and asks for a separation. Pietro tries to stop her by involving the children, and insisting she explain to them what she has done.

Elena is pained by the thought of hurting her children, but remains firm in her plan. Before leaving with Nino for a conference in Montpellier, signaling her choice to break with Pietro permanently, she tells Lila what she has done, and what she intends to do. The next day, she leaves with Nino for Montpellier.

They gave directions, helped with tours and dinner reservations. Great breakfast with a large selection of items. Wonderful location. The value for money. The rate was a bit expensive. Moreover, we had a very bad view facing a wall. You expect nicer view when you pay that much. Moreover, the staff was always ready to assist. Room decorated beautifully in Florentine style. Lovely views also to the mountains.

Minor things: a slightly confusing layout of the hallways and stairs - not ideal if you have a big luggage. Uneven floors in our room tripped us a few times. Staff is very friendly. Service is excellent. Location is wonderful - steps from the SMN train station, within walking distance from the river and all the main attractions in central Florence, and lots of great restaurants nearby. Room decoration is nicely classical. We loved that it is right next to the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and enjoyed visiting it as soon as we settled in the hotel.

We liked everything. The hotel is in an excellent location with lots of places to eat and drink nearby. The hotel had lots of facilities and a rooftop where you could enjoy the sunset. The room was fantastic - very cosy, comfortable and stylish. The hotel even provided us some complimentary prosecco due to it being a special occasion. We had a great time at this hotel - very enjoyable. Would have loved to have restaurant or better selection of room service The baths are wonderful but slippery need hand holds. Breakfast was terrific and the staff very accommodating All in all made me feel very much at home.

The hotel compare to the one in Rome we stayed was much much better.. And our room is very large and comfortable. For the money I think is worth it , the location is also very good. Very close to train station. I had everything I needed in the room, comfortable king-size bed, beautiful marble bathroom and a lovely view over Basilica Santa Maria Novella.

The hotel also provide turn-down service in the evening. The breakfast was included in the rate and it was really a lovely experience. The Service and presentation was impeccable and the variety was really nice. This hotel is nicely located in the old center of Firenze centro storico and in a very close distance to everything. I loved my walks everywhere and never felt the need for transportation.

Hotel Santa Maria Novella made my stay really worth it and I enjoyed everyday in this lovely city knowing I will return to this beautiful hotel at night. On my departure day, and as I was leaving very early morning, the Reception Team made a thoughtful gesture without me asking by giving me a lovely little breakfast bag as they knew I didn't have breakfast.

The bag contained an apple, juice, water, 4 types of toast, cookies, 2 little jars of honey. Now how thoughtful was this?! Thank you to all the team members of this fabulous gem. I had a stomachace because Breakfast was pretty good to eat much. Umbrwlla was ready free 4. Comportable 5. Tow bottle of water is free a day 6. Shower tube is big 7. Fantastic find for Florence.

Great location, walk to everything, very close to train station. Great value, reallly a 5 star accommodation at 3 star price. Breakfast buffet fantastic and elegant. We really felt a part of the Florence scene staying at the Santa Maria Novella. Plus we received an unexpected room upgrade which helped with our family of 3. The gym could have more equipment. It was very close and handy to the to the station and yet the hotel was safe, well appointed and luxurious. Food was excellent and the family interconnecting rooms were fantastic. The gym met our needs.

Thanks to the polite and professional staff.

It was cold in the room, the heating system was set at a low temperature impossible to be increased though it was beginning of December. Elegance, original style, very good breakfast, very good position for touristic objectives. Excellent all around! Very comfortable room, great location close to the train, shops and restaurants, wonderful complementary breakfast. I will stay here again!!

14 Novels of Wildness & Wilderness

The decorations were alittle old. Not much view. The place was near to restaurants and shops. The breakfast spread was awesome!! The room and toilet are clean too! Friendly staff, great location, wonderful breakfast. The bed was placed far too close to the wardrobe which meant that I couldn't open the latter without moving the bed! On one occasion the hairdryer wasn't working but this was repaired when I asked. It was a fine old building in a central location just a few minutes' walk from the main square. The interior was quirky and a little confusing but a fine old palazzo.

The breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful. On the whole, the staff were helpful and friendly, especially at reception. The internet could be improved, it kept dropping out. The heat was set too high it was near winter but they turned it off on request. The hotel was well located and had that small friendly atmosphere about it. Would definitely stay again. The included breakfast was very good with a lot of choice. Room looked over Piazza de Santa Maria Novella, easy walk from train and convenient to all.

Excellent breakfast buffet included and wonderful rooftop terrace to enjoy the ambience and sunsets. I can't think of a thing! Everything was handled perfectly. The room was beautifully appointed, the bathroom had been carefully thought out so that there was great ease in using it. The desk staff was accommodating, helpful, pleasant, and answered every question with professionalism. Staff were friendly and efficient. They went the extra mile. The ambience of the hotel overall and the room was outstanding. It felt relaxed but at the same time had a very high quality of comfort, design and service.

Staff and there lack of communication amongst each other causing problems to customer. We had booked Suite, but was located in other building and so had to change 2 lifts to get to the reception. Breakfast was really ordinary. Delay in providing services to room. And staff at reception behaved reasonably rudely at the time of checkout. Location only. A well located boutique hotel in the heart of old Florence and within walking distance from the railway station.

Great breakfast and comfortable rooms. I didn't like the layout of the hotel and the elevators. It was difficult to find your way to and from your room, but it would not deter me from staying there. The view was great which overlooked Santa Maria square and it was very convenient to shopping and sights.

The room was very beautifully appointed. I liked the special touch that they brought in fresh fruit each night and placed a beautiful linen foot wipe beside bed. Breakfasts were delicious and the staff was very helpful and accommodating. The whole experience was a delight. The staff were excellent, the room luxurious and extremely comfortable. The location was central to the sights of Florence and a short walk from the station.

The hotel provided little extras such as complimentary daily bottles of mineral water. A wonderful stay. I booked a single room and it was quite small especially the shower cubicle. The staff at Reception were extremely helpful in terms of directions around Florence, booking taxis, getting to the airport and any queries you might possibly have.

Peculiar lift system which took you so far and then required swapping over to go higher! Breakfast staff were friendly but service was a bit slow. Would have been good to have a bar closer to the roof terrace - in order to have a drink up there you have to negotiate that peculiar lift system to the ground floor, get your drinks, then take them back up via the lift system The hotel was brilliantly situated, and had a very luxurious feel throughout.

Amazing views from the roof terrace. Lovely, well-informed staff who spoke impeccable English. Our suite was spacious, airy, and had a lovely big marble bathroom. We felt very spoilt! Finding the room top terrace was a bit confusing and maybe better signposting to locate it. We had to get the assistance of a member of staff to locate it. Once there, the views were fantastic. Very central located hotel with one of the most comfiest beds I have stayed in and had excellent sleeps each night.

The staff were very helpful, friendly and efficient and the breakfast was plentiful, varied selection and good quality. All the main attractions and railway station are in walking distance from the hotel. The most annoying issue is the fact that your room key is needed to keep the electric on so when we wanted to leave our phones, cameras, iPad to charge while we were out there is no electricity running because we have the room key.

This is extremely inconvenient. Cleanliness, staff, location were all great. Bed, room, very comfortable.

But what surpassed all that was the excellent customer service. Friendly, efficient, welcoming, knowledgeable about surroundings. We will highly recommend. Santa Maria Novella made our stay in Florence extra special. Its like out of a movie. Staff was super friendly, the view amazing and the room just beautiful.

What do you think?

We absolutely loved it! Nothing really, was all very good. Maybe a cheaper parking instead of 35 euro a night seems a bit steep, or at least wash the car or some sort of service like bottles of water in the car when it's returned would be a good touch but not impact the margin. Beautiful place right in the centre and a 5 min walk from train station which is great if you've got luggage. Place itself is very well maintained and a nice luxury feel, breakfast is good with a large selection. Beds were very comfortable, and rooms although a little on the small side but understandable for a city centre building were very nice.

“Acceptance Journey”

Marble bathrooms in good finish. Extra staffing in bar area needed. The location was great, especially the grassed square in front of the hotel as there were few green spaces in the old city. Breakfast area was beautiful and rooms had old world charm. Was worried that it would be simple to slip in the bath whilst having a shower, so resorted to putting a hand towel in the bath to prevent slipping. Apart from that, we were delighted with the accommodation and would go back there.

We were delighted with the central location of the hotel and the friendly and helpful staff. The rooms were very clean and the sheets were changed every day. The breakfast room is light and airy and the food is excellent. The breakfast staff were very jolly too. The hotel is beautiful with interesting objects to look at and we loved the roof terrace in the evening. Wonderful view of Piazza Santa Maria Novella from the room and magnificent views from the roof terrace, decor, beautiful breakfast room, and outstanding helpfulness of staff.

The location is good as it is pretty close to the train station, but the room is too noisy, we can actually hear the noise of the train from the room and the noise was quite loud. Hard to sleep. Gorgeous rooms - we had connecting rooms. Comfortable beds and awesome view and location. Front desk was very friendly and helpful. Easy to find and close to train station. Fancy, delicious breakfast, a bar and a rooftop terrace with amazing views. This hotel has an authentic Italian luxury feel. So many European hotels are now very modern and cold in my opinion.

This one is not, its as you imagine it should be. The hotel was very charming, decorated in a traditional Florentine manner. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is situated in an ideal for touring the city. The pictures of roof terrace with wine and breakfast, French bed with drapes were just Not real. The terrace had good view but nothing else All that we can do is to stand there and take pics, there isn't really a bar or table even which is a shame. The bed and room wasn't as dreamy as the pictures look, definitely below our high expectations from the pics.

Perfect location actually at the square, easy connection to all attractions. Can't get any better. Breakfast was good although took nearly 15mins for a lot of tea to arrive. Cleaners came in to set the bed and left some sweets there while we went to explore the terrace which was very welcoming. The common room on ground floor is beautiful. Still this doesn't detract from the fact that this is a very nice hotel and I would not hesitate to recommend. The hotel was great in terms of comfort and a central location with easy access to the railway station. Also the staff were very friendly and welcoming.

The breakfast was also excellent. Hotel was a bit pricey but worth it. Great hotel, location is perfect just steps away from heart of Firenze. Staff are very helpful - anything you need is no problem, very professional.

Buying Options

Breakfast was fantastic. The views - no views at all except looking onto other buildings, pipes and air conditioning units. Also, no English channels on the TV or the option for subtitles. The room was clean. Great sized bathroom and a good hairdryer!

We cannot fault this hotel. Gorgeous facilities, wonderful breakfast and the perfect location. Staff went above and beyond and even gave us a littlw take away breakfast pack when we needed to check out early. Thanks for a wonderful stay, we will be back to stay again in the future. Water pressure in shower was weak, but not bad. Great location! Great rooms - wow was it spacious and had great air conditioning which is important in Summer. Good breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. Error: Please enter a valid email address. Error: Oops! An error has occurred.
