Kathy Howard. Do those words ring any bells? Do those words describe your faith when what you really want is a fiery, passionate, connected faith? You're not alone in your struggle with flat faith. This said, I feel like I had the time to understand and take in every word, I felt like it was speaking directly to me. Kathy Howard included experiences of her own throughout the whole book, plus ones from friends and acquaintances.
This made the reading even easier to take in, understand, and make it my own. There was not one place that I did not understand what she was trying to teach me. I appreciate that a lot. If we simply go through the motions of faith, at best we miss out on the abundance of all God has planned for us. What I liked most about those words is I had to question myself to see if I fit in the category of missing out.
Kathy wrote about 10 Attitudes and Actions to Pump Up Your Faith, step by step, prayer by prayer, each one explained one step at a time how to do exactly what you need to do to get on fire for God. I feel that this book has enriched my life and I really thank Kathy for writing on this subject. This book would be good for a person looking to have a personal relationship with God that has not heard about the Good News yet; but also for everyone who fits into that Flat Faith category, for whatever reason.
Bible Study groups, book club groups, Church Libraries or personal use, all these are good places to put this book to work. Jun 07, ChrisGA rated it it was amazing Shelves: giveaway-bookfun-org. Boy, do I feel this book was written just for me! The author is not writing about unbelievers, but rather she writes to Christians who want to experience the presence of God in a dynamic, passionate way, but whose habits of faith get in the way.
She is speaking to livelong Christians for whom faith is so a part of them that it has become expected and routine. She is speaking to me —especially in the example of Martha who was too busy doing works of faith that she failed to adequately nourish her Boy, do I feel this book was written just for me!

The book was published by Wharton Press. The book discussed dead, flat spirituality, instead of a passion for a relationship with God. People need to turn to God first with problems, concerns, everything, instead of turning to others or self. Turning to anything but God can lead to disappointment and frustration The book also provides examples of women, living in Bible times, who lacked faith.
For example, Sarah laughed at God, when he said she would be a mother. Martha focused on serving God, instead of being near him. The book also discusses symptoms of flat faith and how to revive the spark in your life. Prayer works wonders. Other highlights from the book: 1.

As I read this book two things really spoke to my heart. First, my heart was pricked as she talked about not just reading the Bible but really taking the time to understand what I read and apply it my daily walk. I was also very moved when she talked about discovering God's specific will for me. This book challenged and encouraged me in my walk with the Lord.

Jul 15, Donna Mcginnis rated it it was amazing. Well, almost everyone. Sometimes one family member simply responds with an embarrassed chuckle. One of our funniest family memories involves our daughter, Sarah, and a turnstile. It was the last week of summer and time to get ready for a new school year.

Back then we lived in a small town about 25 miles outside Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The kind of shopping we needed to do required a trip to the city. So the three kids and I piled in the minivan and headed off for a day in Calgary.
We had almost hit the city limits when the smallest voice from the backseat announced he had gotten into the van without any shoes. Mom made a quick decision. We would not return home; six-year-old Mark needed new shoes anyway. Our first stop would be the sporting goods store not far into the city. While trying to explain to the checker why I was paying for an empty box, I heard a familiar scream close behind me.
Sarah, our nine-year-old, had somehow managed to get herself caught in the turnstile at the store entrance. The best I can determine is she tried to push through the turnstile on the wrong side where it spun under a crossbar. Head and shoulders hung out one side, and her lower half hung out the other. But she was stuck fast. Releasing her required the manager and a special turnstile key. Have you ever been trapped with no hope for escape? Held in slavery and in need of salvation? Yet, while we were still held captive God chose to free us and make us His own.
He still calls all His children to holiness. God is holy. As His children we are called to conform to His character. Read the Scripture references listed on the left and draw a line to the appropriate phrase on the right. Galatians —4.

Jesus died to make us holy. Like the children of Israel, we have gone from chains to chosen to covenant. God chose us to be His own and saved us from the bondage of sin and death. He brought us into the new covenant sealed with the blood of Christ and calls us to respond with holiness. Read 1 Peter —4 below. Circle the words that describe the salvation that is ours in Christ. In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.
This inheritance is kept in heaven for you. Read 1 Peter — His death provides the motivation and the power to say no to sin and yes to holiness in every area of our lives. Jesus died to make us holy, to deliver us from sin. How, then can we carelessly or casually continue to sin against such a Savior? Have you ever taken the sacrificial death of Christ for granted? I have.

Have you failed to change the way you live in light of His grace? May our lives be impacted by His truth. Just ask Nicky Cruz. Born in Puerto Rico in , Nicky was surrounded by the oppressive darkness of the occult. Until his midteens he suffered physical abuse from his witchcraft-practicing parents. At 15, Nicky went to New York to stay with an older brother; by 16 years old, he was the leader of the brutal Mau Maus, a notorious street gang in Brooklyn. After years of violence, drugs, and arrests, Nicky encountered a preacher named David Wilkerson.
The result — the dramatic conversion of a soul-scarred, ruthless gangster. Before meeting Christ, Nicky Cruz had known only darkness. Then God used David Wilkerson to show him light. Does your life point those around you to God? When was the last time the holiness of your life caused a lost friend or neighbor to acknowledge God and praise Him?
Although God called the nation of Israel to be a holy nation, like us, she did not always heed that call. In fact, after centuries of rebellion and idolatry, God brought discipline.

In BC, Assyria conquered the kingdom of Israel. Her citizens were dragged into captivity, bringing a permanent end to the Northern Kingdom. Then in BC, after previous deportations of her people, Babylon completely defeated the Southern Kingdom of Judah and took most of the remaining people back to Babylon. God had eternal purposes for His people. Read Ezekiel — Why did God exile His people to Babylon?
What did God plan to do with and for His people whom he had exiled? Check all that apply. Bring them out of exile and back to the Promised Land. Bless the land and cause it to produce bountiful harvests. Increase the number of people and livestock. Rebuild the towns and repair the ruins. Bring prosperity to the people. Read Ezekiel —23, 29— Why did God say He would do all this? Mark the following statements True or False: For the sake of Israel. To reveal His holiness to the nations. To bring Israel to repentance. The prophet Ezekiel foretold the return of the exiles to Jerusalem.
God fulfilled this prophecy beginning in BC when Cyrus, King of Persia, issued an edict allowing the Israelites to return. God disciplined His people because their lack of holiness had caused the nations to scorn God. He led them back from exile to show His holiness to the world. He brought them to repentance and cleansed their lives from impurity. His Spirit moved them to obedience and He blessed them. His purposes have not changed. Believers, we have been chosen by God and called to be holy so we can reveal Him to a lost world. Pause for a moment and ask God to show you how your life impacts those around you.
What change can you make in your life today that would cause others to glorify God? Denise became a Christian as a child, so by the time she was a teenager she actively shared her faith with friends. One day at school, Denise and a friend she had been telling about Jesus were standing around chatting with a group. Someone in the group accused Denise of horribly slandering another person.
The friend immediately jumped to her defense. In fact, it impacted her so greatly, she was convinced she could depend on Denise to always behave that way. Prayerfully think about your own life.
